Much more than a competitive salary

We know you want a challenging job that fits your life and goals, and we know that your life is about more than your job. That’s why the BC Public Service matches rewarding work with real career development opportunities. And it’s also why we offer a benefits package that helps support you in finding work/life balance. Put simply, the BC Public Service offers benefits and work options you won’t find anywhere else.

Attractive total compensation

Competitive unionized pay scales and management salaries reflective of responsibilities. In addition to take-home pay, you will receive a range of benefits that average 23 per cent more in value. For a list of various salaries, click here.

Defined benefit pension plan

For every $1 employees contribute, the BC Public Service contributes $1.13.

Salary deferral program

Defer a portion of your salary to finance paid leaves of absence from six to 12 months in duration.

Vacation

New unionized employees receive at least three weeks vacation and managers receive four weeks — to start.

Vacation for re-employed public service employees

If you previously worked in the BC Public Service, when you return to a regular position your past years of service will be recognized when determining your vacation entitlement. The recognition of past service will be cumulative and include all periods of regular and auxiliary service over 1827 hours.

Temporary assignments and project opportunities

Access a wide variety of work experiences within and between ministries to help develop your skills and expand your career options.

Flexible work arrangements

Options are negotiable and include: flexible hours, telecommuting, compressed work weeks or job sharing.

Volunteer abroad

Experience a life-changing opportunity to volunteer with CUSO, a Canadian organization which supports alliances for global social justice. Your benefits will continue to be paid and a job will be waiting for you upon your return.
